Here is another great video that demonstrates what dyslexia might look like during a round robin reading activity. A short, but worthwhile video to watch as it helps us “see” what dyslexia can look like in a typical classroom.
In this video, six adults participated in a simulation experiment. They were asked to read the text provided to each of them. Some individuals were given texts that were easy to follow and read, while others had texts that were unclear and difficult to read with accuracy and fluency, thereby simulating dyslexia.
Once the exercise was over the teacher asked the participants how this exercise made them feel. Individuals who were reading challenged reported feelings of embarrassment, anxiety and so forth. While “good readers” were rather surprised and felt empathetic.
This video is a valuable learning tool for parents, teachers, school administrators, employers and of course students. It is essential viewing for all who work with our special needs population!
